The shortlist for the public vote of the new public space is:
Navigator Square: Navigators or ‘Navvies’ were the working people who built the roads, railways and tunnels in Archway (and the rest of London). A tribute to the area’s Irish Community and a celebration of the working classes.
Orchid Square: The Archway Tower used to be the site of a glasshouse. It contained orchids grown and collected by the noted orchidologist Benjamin Williams. A nod to a little known but interesting fact about the site.
Peoples Place: The area was dominated by vehicles and has now been re-claimed for the community. The space belongs to the people of Archway. In tribute to the people of Archway.
Telford Square: Thomas Telford was a civil engineer, architect and stonemason, he was also a noted road bridge and canal builder. He pioneered an innovative technique that was first used on Archway Road, which was the basis of modern road building.
Tollhouse Square: From 1813–1864, Archway was the site of a toll gate where travellers had to pay for the next stage of their journey. In tribute to the Toll House that stood in Archway.
