We chatted to Dina Cohen, Owner of Dynamic Flow Yoga about working and living in Archway:
What inspired you to start your yoga business?
I was a typical jobbing yoga teacher…travelling all over London, working in the early mornings, late into the evenings and every weekend, with hours spent wandering round town in the middle of day waiting for my next class. The venues where I taught were often windowless, soul-less, without the correct props and lots noise interference from their surroundings. And I was earning very little! But I loved teaching yoga and I was so lucky that my partner and I were able to create a studio for ourselves by knocking down a wall in the house we bought together. Suddenly I was able offer my services in a beautiful environment of my own making, creating an atmosphere or warmth and community.
What services do you offer?
I teach regular yoga and meditation classes and private sessions to suit all bodies and abilities, including accessible Chair Yoga for those with physical concerns. I train yoga teachers too.
How has COVID impacted your business?
As soon as lockdown hit, I dropped all my prices and took my business online. What an amazing blessing Zoom has been. Everyone managing to maintain the social connection and keep up with their yoga practices that are now more beneficial than ever - and from the safety of their own homes. But I miss being in my studio with all the lovely locals that have become my 'yoga family’ over the years.
What are the benefits of yoga?
Yoga has so many far-reaching benefits from the simple gifts of increasing mobility and flexibility, building strength and stamina, nourishing all the systems of the body through healthy breathing practices through to supporting the nervous system and in turn the immune system by helping us to manage stress.
What do you love about working in Archway?
I love the community spirit that has developed through the interactivities of the businesses here, bumping into friends and clients in the cafes and at the Saturday Market, and especially all the wonderful locals that have passed through my doors and become great friends.
How has Archway changed for you and your business since you started?
Archway has become more of a community hub, with lovely shops, cafes and community events popping up and inviting - dare I say it - mingling of all the great people from all cultures and walk of life who have made it their home. I love it here and am so happy to be able to offer a service that supports the locals.
