‘Treeline’ is a sculptural intervention by artist Margot Bannerman. Seven trees on the Post Office roof in Archway Mall are chosen for their resilience and distinctive characteristics; the varied foliage, blossom, colours, branch structure, and growing patterns, silhouetted against the Archway sky.Stone Pine pinus pinea, Himalayan Birch betula utilis jacquemontii multi-stem, Hawthorn crataegus x prunifolia splendens, Serviceberry amelanchier arborea robin hill, Antarctic Beech northofagus antartica, Chinese Red Birch betula albosinensis fascination, Holm Oak quercus ilex. The work aims to encourage us to think about ways in which we might use urban surfaces in more inspiring and creative ways. The trees are changing and slightly mysterious presences interrupting the built skyline, inviting moments to look up and pause.
Treeline is an Archway Town Centre Group commission funded by Islington Council and supported by AIR at Central Saint Martins. The trees are intended to be in situ for a minimum of two years after which they will be donated to a local green space.
