Not a tax haven, but a great place to recharge your batteries, especially in the middle of the day. The Gate cafe has a shady garden to eat in Gate and it's a member of the Archway Card scheme. Check out the home page to see what their offer is for this month.
And when you've finished your lunch, there are plenty of other attractions. Have you seen the beautiful vintage clothes at Resurrection Boutique or thought about getting into shape at Dowe Dynamics? Both have offers on the Archway Card scheme. Then there's the unique Lady's and Gent's taxi cab firm which grew out of Ladycabs, an Archway institution, which pioneered the idea of a cab company with only women drivers. Now remodelled to include drivers of both sexes, it's still possible to request a female driver if you prefer.
The island is also home to another Archway institution, the Second Chance shop (recently reopened after refurbishment) which is much more than a run of the mill charity shop. Its huge interior seems to display almost everything. It was set up to support the nearby Methodist Church, another major feature on the island.
And the most surprising thing of all? Sitting in The Gate's garden, enjoying a delicious meal, it is amazingly quiet. No traffic noise, no sense of rush. A true oasis of calm
