Islington Libraries and UNISON present Viv Albertine, musician, songwriter and guitarist with pioneering punk band The Slits. Born in Sydney, Albertine was brought up in North London and lives here still. She will be reading from her memoir "Clothes, Clothes, Clothes. Music, Music, Music. Boys, Boys, Boys."
In 1970, Viv Albertine knew she wanted to be in a band, but had never seen a woman play electric guitar. Her memoir tells the story of how she forced herself, through will, talent and fearlessness, onto a male-dominated music scene and became part of a movement that changed music. Shocking, funny and ruthlessly honest, it is the story of a life lived unscripted, told from the heart.
The book was selected as Sunday Times Music Book of the Year and MOJO Book of the Year. International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
The event will be held at Archway Library on Wednesday 9 March at 7pm.
